From the Editor

This is the second month of the new website and new newsletter format. We appreciate all of the feedback. Most of the feedback has been very positive, except for concerns about filesize. We have addressed the filesize concerns with this issue of the newsletter. There were additional requests for adding the filesizes next to the links to the historical PDFs which can be large. This request is still under consideration.

As always, feel free to comment & critique at  info at metrowestchess.org.

20th Anniversary Survey

Mary will be distributing member surveys next Tuesday for Round 1 of the May tournament. The survey will ask the membership what we should do to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Your response could range from "nothing" to a "dinner cruise" with a bunch of choices in between.

If you have ideas, or an opinion, please fill out the survey, and also feel free to talk to Mary, our newest Director!. You can reach Mary at info at metrowestchess.org.

Scholastic Tournaments

The MCC Scholastic Tournaments will start June 19, 2003, and continue June 26, July 10, 17, 24, 31, August 7, 14, and finish August 21.

The program will be open to all players age 14 and younger as of June 19 (it's ok if you turn 15 during the summer). Depending on attendance, I will run three or four sections. By running several sections, I expect that players will be matched against suitable competition.

Promotional flyer (Word) available here. For more info, contact me at info at metrowestchess.org

The first evening is Thursday, June 19. This event is a great way to introduce a child to tournament chess. I am delayed, so details will be on the website by mid-May.

Chess School

Next class Thursday May 15, 2003.

Thursday, April 17, was the latest, and the smallest session of the MCC Chess School yet, due to Easter and Foxwoods. We covered the second session on Bishop endgames, and it was fun and intimate.

The next session of the chess school will cover bishop vs. knight endings, and NM Lou Mercuri will be present for a one hour lecture/Q&A session

Hope to see you there!

Game Advice

Are you seeking expert advice? Any MCC member can ask an MCC Expert for advice on their games. Just go to our new website, and in the left column under "Learn & Improve" click on "Game Advice". On this page, I explain how to submit your game, via email to us.

Simple as that. We have a group of Experts lined up for this, so don't be shy, throw us your hardest questions!

Library

Using the Readerware software purchased by the Club, the cataloging of all books that are on-site has been completed. Reconciliation of the on-loan cards and the old Microsoft Access database is in progress.

Members that have books that have been out longer than six months will be notified by email and asked to return the items immediately.

If you have questions or comments, please email Library at MetroWestChess.org or see me on Tuesday nights.
