The MetroWest Chess Club held it's 20th Anniversary on Tuesday July 29, 2003 at the Natick Senior. It was a great event with over 60 people in attendance. We opened with a BBQ dinner, followed by a few short walks down memory lane, with guest appearances by Carl Garfield and Bill McAllister. You can read their interviews from before the Anniversary party in the History page under "Pre-history".
Next, was the presentation of Best Game Awards by John Chamberlain (see below), including a posthumous award for Lomer Cormier who passed away shortly before the Anniversary.
After the awards, we all sang "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" to long-time President Mark Kaprielian for his outstanding efforts over the years, and especially during our critical period after losing the Legion Hall site in April 1995. |
|||||
Last but not least, our own FM Igor Foygel held a simul with 21 people, giving up only two draws! In parallel we held a 6 round speed chess event. |
|||||
We all look forward to many more years as a strong Club!
